About Lost & Found: Lost & Found: The CUNY Poetics Document Initiative is a publishing project centered on student archival research in 20th century cultural materials. Bridging research, preservation, and publication, Lost & Found emphasizes the importance of collaborative and archival processes.
About the Roles: The Center for the Humanities seeks two students who will work in collaboration with each other and with the Lost & Found leadership to plan a suite of talks, workshops, and conferences related to Lost & Found Publications. In any given year, L&F organized between 3-7 events.
This is an opportunity for someone interested in broadening and deepening public discourse on authors, collaborators, and topics closely related to the wider Lost & Found ethos, poetic practice, and community. Fellows will be encouraged to bring their own energy, expertise, and research inquiries to the table and will be supported in their efforts to plan their own events and strengthen their own professional networks through the Center.
Each role is conceived of requiring 75 hours of work split between the fall and spring semesters, breaking down to approximately 2 hours a week. It's important to note that some weeks there may be additional demand, for instance, if we plan a conference, in which case fellows are encouraged to work with L&F leadership to adjust their hours accordingly to break even on hours over the course of the year.
Students will be paid $1,500 in the fall and spring upon receipt of two key deliverables, for a total of $1,500. The fall deliverable is a programmatic statement and roadmap for the year ahead. The spring deliverable is a programmatic statement and roadmap for 2024-2025.
Fellowship Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Help plan between 3-7 Lost & Found Public Programs over the course of the academic year
Communicate room booking needs to the Center for the Humanities events coordinator
Email outreach to speakers, communicating speaker needs Center for the Humanities events manager
Coordinate with featured guests to schedule dates, secure travel, speaker hospitality, and lodging
Contribute to representation and framing of the event online and in social media
Gather speaker bios and event descriptions
Secure permissions for video, audio, and photographic documentation
Support front and back-of-house activities at events with Center for the Humanities events manager
Communicate accessibility requests made by featured guests and audience members to Center for the Humanities events manager
Support events manager for hospitality, including ordering food and beverages, and clean up
Coordinating budget with Center for the Humanities events manager
Supporting managing editor with book sales
Qualifications and Areas of Interest:
Fellow should have a strong interest in poetry and archival research, with knowledge of the arts and humanities with a focus on 20th century arts and poetics, connections to a diverse poetry community, and interest in the finer details of event planning. Fellows should be excited to work with a great team to organize a few poetry-related events over the course of the next year!
