Licia Fiol-Matta is Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Latin American and Puerto Rican Studies at Lehman College. Her interdisciplinary research explores the intersection of gender, culture, and nation in twentieth century Latin America, the Caribbean, and the United States’ Latino population. She is the author of A Queer Mother for the Nation: The State and Gabriela Mistral (2002, University of Minnesota Press) and The Politics of Voice: Gender and Popular Music in Puerto Rico, 1935-1995 (forthcoming, Duke University Press).
