About this CUNY Adjunct Incubator Project
As part of a research project supported by the CUNY Adjunct Incubator, Emily Hotez, an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Psychology Department at Hunter College, CUNY, is developing a research project "Enhancing CUNY-Wide Capacity to Promote the Success of Student-Parents," which seeks to develop institutional and pedagogical policies and practices aimed at better serving the needs of student-parents.
Through this project, a student-parent task force will lead a charge toward improving the college experiences of student-parents CUNY-wide. The task force will engage in structured discussions to gain a comprehensive understanding of student-parents’ college experiences across CUNY. These discussions will culminate in a set of student-led policy and practice recommendations to effectively support student-parents at CUNY. Students will present their findings to the CUNY community and brainstorm with faculty regarding the most fruitful ways to implement their recommendations. All task force members will also complete original research and advocacy projects focused on promoting the success of student-parents. The overarching goal of this project is to identify strategies for harnessing the unique value that students-parents’ diverse experiences bring to higher education.
