About the collection
While poverty is not exclusive to cities, it presents specific challenges in urban contexts. This collection of projects, film screenings, and discussions examines various aspects of urban poverty, ranging from issues of gentrification, welfare reform, housing inequalities, and educational inequality. Using different mediums, scholars, urban theorists, and artists grapple with the various ways in which poverty affects urban life, the working class, and housing. This collection also considers the means by which non-profit organizations, who focus on specific issues, can work to alleviate forms of urban poverty and how images of poverty shape how we think about urban space and neighborhoods.
