Covering issues of gentrification, policing, protest, urban development, rezoning, and community formation, this collection examines how competing claims to urban space are negotiated, disputed, and resisted. How does the intersection of racial, ethnic, and gender identities shape how we interact with public space and create community? How is community formed as we resistance the claims of other groups? What is the impact of capitalism on urban and public space? How does socio-economic inequality shape our vision of community in the city? This collection asks these questions as they relate to the creation of community and the making of space in an urban setting.
