The Center for the Humanities at the Graduate Center, CUNY and Humanities New York are excited to announce the 2017-2018 Graduate Student Public Humanities Fellows from the Graduate Center, CUNY.
The purpose of the fellowship is to bring humanities scholarship into the public realm, to encourage emerging humanities scholars to conceive of their work in relation to the public sphere, to develop skills for doing so, and to strengthen the public humanities community in New York State.
The year-long $8,000 fellowship includes training in the methods and approaches of public scholarship and work by the fellows to explore the public dimensions of their own scholarship in partnership with community organizations serving public audiences.
The 2017-2018 Fellows from the Graduate Center, CUNY are doctoral candidates Denisse Andrade (Geography) and Elaine Chang Sandoval (Ethnomusicology).
Denisse’s project consists of a pop-up library using existing archives on black radical histories.
Elaine’s project seeks to share her fieldwork findings with El Sistema-inspired music education programs in the New York area, specifically to cultivate discussion around efforts to diversify music curricula.
