About the workshop

The Center for the Humanities is working with educators Alex Cuff, Kyra Clemons, and Ralphy Santana to organize a workshop for their Humanities students at The Academy for Young Writers led by poet Phoebe Glick.
To close out their Spring Semester, students in the Writers Lab class at the Academy for Young Writers will participate in a workshop focusing on fostering an interest in writing and aiding the development of poetic skills learned throughout the semester. This semester’s Writers Lab focused around exploring different avenues of entry into poetry that are outside of the traditional canon. Students explored spoken word, rap lyrics as poetry, and natural experimentation through free writing. The workshop will provide an opportunity for the students to explore different forms of poetry through writing that complicates form and subject—that embraces imperfection and the journey of writing a poem, while also speaking to the benefits of revision as a means to continue one’s work.
