About the event
The new memoir by Ziva Flamhaft, War Widow: How The Six Day War Changed My Life, is a story that could have developed with similar characters anywhere in the world. Beginning in Poland and Lithuania, moving to Palestine, Israel, and the United States, it depicts a bygone period of nation building, with love and tragedy, and lives forever changed by conflict and war. It includes tales of fate and suspense under the watching eyes of the British, who controlled the area from 1922 to 1948, and traces the author’s family story from Eastern Europe to Palestine, as well as her recent visits to her parent’s hometowns in Lithuania and Poland.
Author Ziva Flamhaft earned her PhD in Political Science from CUNY and has taught at Queens College since 1986. She is the author of Israel on the Road to Peace: Accepting the Unacceptable (HarperCollins, 1996), and articles on the UN and Zionism, and on Israeli and Palestinian women victimized by war.
