About the event
Michael Kazin (History, Georgetown University) is co-editor of Dissent and the author of the Populist Persuasion and the newly published American Dreamers (Knopf), a panoramic yet intimate history of the American left that give us a revelatory new way of looking at two centuries of American politics and culture. Drawing on his new book, Kazin will speak with Richard Wolin (History and Political Science, Graduate Center CUNY) on “The Failure and Success of the American Left." The American left has achieved many breakthroughs in the fight against slavery, progressive era labor legislation, women’s suffrage, environmental awareness, de-segregation, and in securing rights for marginalized social and ethnic groups. But there have been some significant setback as well. In this public conversation, Kazin will address both aspects of the American left’s storied legacy.
