About the event
As part of a project created for the exhibition Left Coast, the San Francisco-based artist collective Futurefarmers has envisioned a voyage in which ancient grains currently being grown in Norway, will be transported back to their geographic origins in Jordan. This reverse migration, named the Flatbread Society Seed Journey (FBSJ), is imagined as a ‘rescue,’ and falls within a larger movement to protect the rights of small farmers. Join Futurefarmer collaborators Audrey Snyder and Joe Riley for a discussion about the project and its relationship to the internal exchange of ideas, education, and biological concerns. Futurefarmers will also present a workshop in which participants will learn to tie ‘rescue knots,’ a practical skill that is crucial to life-threatening situations while at sea, but dually references the Seed Journey’s ‘rescue’ mission for the grains they are transporting. Moderated by Nadiah Fellah, the Andrew W. Mellon Curatorial Fellow and student in the Graduate Center’s PhD Program in Art History.
