Zakiya Collier

Zakiya Collier is the Digital Archivist at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture where she uses web archiving tools to expand the nature of archival collections to reflect 21st-century Black life and experiences. She is also the Project Archivist at Weeksville Heritage Center on the Linking Lost Jazz Shrines Collections as Data Project, which seeks to apply linked open data principles to an oral history collection. Both in her research and in her work as a Black queer memory worker, Zakiya is passionate about the uncovering of ancestral memory traditions and the development of new archival practices that account for the material conditions of Black life. She holds an MA in Media, Culture, and Communication from New York University, an MLIS from Long Island University, and a BA in Anthropology from the University of South Carolina.
