Sarah Coluccio is a native New Yorker and lifelong resident of Queens. She is a former librarian and has taught literature and writing on both the secondary and post-secondary levels since 2010. Her primary research interests are Children’s and Young Adult literature, sociolinguistics, public literacy and educational policy, and narrative and writing studies. She is particularly interested in speech varieties, dialects, and author—created languages in fiction, and her past work includes a cultural examination of the New York City accent, syntactical analysis of sci-fi novels, and the connection between young adults and reading fantasy novels as trauma recovery. Her dissertation is entitled Private Lives, Public Literacies: Literacy Programming from The New York Public Library. She is a PhD Candidate at St. John’s. Currently, she works for the CUNY Early College Initiative and College Preparatory Program at Queens College where she teaches college writing and literature courses to advanced high school students for college credit. She also coordinates the on-campus Writing Center for that program, teaches in the English Department at Queens College, and works as an editor and tutor for students writing college entrance essays.
