Odili Donald Odita is an artist whose hard-edged abstract paintings explore notions of space and the confluence of personal memory and cultural history. Born in Nigeria and raised in the United States, Odita brings considerations of African, European, and American cultures into play in his work. He has exhibited at venues around the world, including the 52nd Venice Biennale, and has had solo exhibitions at the Rose Art Museum, Brandeis University, Jack Shainman Gallery, the Studio Museum in Harlem, the Contemporary Arts Center, and the Michael Stevenson Gallery in Cape Town. He is also a writer and consulting editor for Nka: Journal of Contemporary African Art. Odita is associate professor of fine art at Tyler School of Art, Temple University. He lives in both Philadelphia and New York.
