Mia R. Curran is a doctoral student in the Art History program at the Graduate Center. Her research investigates modernisms in the Americas, focusing on diasporic and transnational networks of exchange, articulations of race and heritage in the 1920s and 1930s, and the politics of influence and appropriation in decolonial contexts. Before joining the program, Mia held the position of curatorial assistant at the Whitney Museum of American Art, where she worked on the collection-based exhibitions America is Hard to See and Human Interest: Portraits from the Whitney's Collection. Prior to that role, she held a 12-month internship at the Museum of Modern Art in addition to internships at Tate, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden. Her writing has appeared in publications including Artforum and Disegno.
