Lowery Stokes Sims is Curator at the Museum of Arts and Design, and previously has held positions at The Studio Museum in Harlem and The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Sims is known for her particular expertise in the work of African, Latino, Native- and Asian-American artists. She has written on Wifredo Lam, Fritz Scholder, and Richard Pousette-Dart, whose work she curated for a Metropolitan Museum of Art survey. Sims has organized numerous exhibitions, which have most recently been on view at the National Gallery, Kingston, Jamaica, as well as The Cleveland Museum of Art and the New York Historical Society. She has been a visiting scholar at the Clark Art Institute and the Department of Art at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities; has taught at Queens College, CUNY, and Hunter College, CUNY; and lectures internationally.
