Lara Vapnyar emigrated from Russia to New York in 1994. She is the author of two short stories collections: Broccoli and There Are Jews in My House, and a novel Memoirs of a Muse. Her stories and essays have appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times, Harper’s, and other publications. She lives on Staten Island with her family, and teaches creative writing at NYU.
