John Mollenkopf is a Distinguished Professor of Political Science and Sociology at the Graduate Center and coordinates its interdisciplinary concentration in public policy and urban studies. He directs the Center for Urban Research and has authored or edited fifteen books on urban politics, urban policy, immigration, and New York City. Prior to joining the Graduate Center in 1981, he directed the Economic Development Division of the New York City Department of City Planning and taught urban studies and public management at Stanford University. He has co-authored Place Matters: A Metropolitics for the 21st Century and Inheriting the City: The Children of Immigrants Come of Age. He co-edited Bringing Outsiders In: Transatlantic Perspectives on Immigrant Political Incorporation. He is a member of the MacArThur Foundation Research Network on Building Resilient Regions.
