Johanna Unzueta (b. 1974, Santiago, Chile) studied art at the Universidad Católica de Chile in Santiago and moved to New York City in early 2000, where she currently lives. She has exhibited widely through Europe, South and North America, having solo exhibitions at Galeria Die Ecke, Santiago de Chile, Proyectos Ultravioleta, Guatemala City, Galerie Christinger De Mayo, Zürich, Queens Museum of Art, New York, Or Gallery, Vancouver B.C and Galería Chilena, Santiago de Chile. Unzueta has participated in group exhibitions at London Museum, London Ontario (2016), Galeria Gabriela Mistral, Santiago de Chile (2014), Suite 302-Chelsea Hotel, New York (2013), Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Universidad de Chile, Santiago (2012), Museo del Barrio, New York (2011), David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies, Harvard University, Cambridge (2012), Museu de Arte Contemporãnea da Universidade de São Paulo (2011), A Gentil Carioca, Rio de Janeiro (2007) and Galerie Christian Nagel Cologne/Berlin (2005). Residencies include DIVA, The Danish Arts Council Committee for International Visual Arts (2012), Capacete, Rio de Janeiro (2007); and Art Omi, Gent, New York (2001). In 2015 she was awarded a residency at La Tallera, Sala de Arte Publico Siquiros, Cuernavaca, Mexico. Since 2008 she co edits and publishes artists books together with Felipe Mujica. Unzueta is a recipient of the FONDART grant, from the Chilean Board of Arts and Culture (1999, 2004 and 2010) and the DIRAC prize from the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2004 and 2008). Unzueta is preparing a solo show at Sala de Arte Público Siqueiros, Mexico City, for February 2017.
