Joan Retallack is a poet and essayist, author of The Poethical Wager (Berkeley: University of California Press) and MUSICAGE: John Cage in Conversation with Joan Retallack (Wesleyan). Other critical works include Poetry & Pedagogy: The Challenge of the Contemporary (Palgrave Macmillan) which she coedited with Juliana Spahr, and Gertrude Stein: Selections (Berkeley). Her poetry includes Procedural Elegies/ Western Civ Cont’d / (an ARTFORUM best book of 2010), Memnoir, Mongrelisme, How To Do Things With Words, and Afterrimages. She is John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Professor Emerita of Humanities at Bard College.
