Jiat-Hwee Chang (PhD, Berkeley) is Associate Professor at the Department of Architecture and Senior Research Fellow at the Asia Research Institute, National University of Singapore. He is the author of A Genealogy of Tropical Architecture: Colonial Networks, Nature and Technoscience (2016), which is awarded an International Planning History Society Book Prize 2018. His forthcoming book (co-authored with Justin Zhuang and photographer Darren Soh) is titled Everyday Modernism: Architecture and Society in Singapore. He currently focuses on two areas of research: transnational histories of the colonial and postcolonial built environment in Asia during the 19th and 20th centuries, and the socio-cultural histories and techno-politics of air-conditioning and climate change in urban Asia.
