Jessica Winegar is Assistant Professor of Anthropology at Northwestern University. Her first book, Creative Reckonings: The Politics of Art and Culture in Contemporary Egypt (2006, Stanford) was the Winner of the Middle East Studies Association’s Albert Hourani Award, and her article “Taking Out the Trash: Youth Clean Up Egypt After Mubarak,” (2011, Middle East Report) will be reprinted in Revolution, Protest and Social Change in Egypt, 1999-2011 (2012, Verso). Winegar has received grants and fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities, American Council of Learned Societies, Social Science Research Council, Fulbright, and the Mellon Foundation. Her research interests include sociocultural anthropology, cultural politics, material and visual culture, class, gender and Islam in the Middle East and North Africa.
