Jenny Perlin is an artist working in Brooklyn. Her practice in 16mm film, video, and drawing works with and against the documentary tradition, incorporating innovative stylistic techniques to emphasize issues of truth, misunderstanding, and personal history. Her projects look closely at ways in which social machinations are reflected in the smallest fragments of daily life.
Perlin's works have been exhibited in numerous venues, including the Guggenheim, Whitney, MoMA, Drawing Center, and The Kitchen. Outside New York, her work has shown at Mass MoCA, Massachusetts, the Aldrich Museum of Art, Connecticut, Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, Arizona, Atlanta Contemporary Art Center, Georgia, CCA, San Francisco, the Folkwang Museum, Germany, MUSAC, Barcelona, Casino Luxembourg, and the Guangzhou Triennial, China, Perlin's films have been screened at the New York Film Festival, Torino Film Festival, Berlin Film Festival, Rotterdam Film Festival, International Documentary Film Festival, Amsterdam, Images Toronto, Wexner Center for the Arts, Ohio, and more. Her work is in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum, the Seattle Art Museum, and the Magdeburg Museum, Germany, among others.
Perlin lives and works in Brooklyn and teaches at The New School and at The Cooper Union, New York City.
