Jean-Marie Thédoat

Dr. Jean-Marie Thédoat received his DEA in Tropical Geography at Université Paris-Sorbonne and his Ph.D. in Geography from Université Paris X-Nanterre. His work focuses on the historical importance of territory, blackness, and nationhood in the Dominican Republic and Haiti. Since 2011, he is President of the Management Board at the Campus Henri Christophe de Limonade, Université d’Etat d’Haiti. Before holding this post, Dr. Théodat was a Professor of Geography and Lecturer at Université Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne. Dr. Théodat has authored numerous publications, including the book “Haïti-République Dominicaine : Une île pour deux, 1804-1916” published in 2003, and has also written about Haitian contemporary art and music. In 2001, he became a founding member of the group LAREHDO (Laboratoire de recherches haïtiennes et dominicaines), which focuses on the study of transnational exchange between both countries. He is also a member of PRODIG (Pôle de Recherche pour l’Organisation et la Diffusion de l’Information Géographique).
