Jason McGraw, Assistant Professor of History and American Studies at Indiana University, is a scholar of modern Caribbean and Latin American history, slavery and emancipation, and popular politics and culture. He most recently held a research appointment at the Lozano Long Institute for Latin American Studies at the University of Texas. He has published numerous articles, including "Spectacles of Freedom: Public Manumissions, Political Rhetoric, and Citizen Mobilisation in Mid-Nineteenth-Century Colombia" (Slavery and Abolition, 2011). Currently, he is completing a book manuscript, The Work of Citizenship: Afro-Colombians and the Postemancipation Struggle for Presence.
