Hito Steyerl has produced numerous essay-style documentaries using both film and video. Her solo exhibition focus: Hito Steyerl opens at the Art Institute of Chicago in October 2012. Steyerl has shown widely in Europe, and has participated in Manifesta 5, dOCUMENTA (12), as well as biennials in Shanghai, Gwangju, and Taipei. Steyerl holds a PhD in Philosophy, and is a professor of media art at the University of Arts Berlin.
