Gabriele Guercio is an independent scholar based in Milan who writes on modern and contemporary art, as well as the history of art theory. He has served as a lecturer at the Universities of Rome and Naples, been a Fellow at the Center for Advanced Studies in the Visual Arts at the National Gallery, and received a J. P. Getty Postdoctoral Fellowship in the History of Art and the Humanities. Guercio is the author of Art as Existence: The Artist's Monograph and Its Project (MIT Press, 2006). He recently co-edited Il confine evanescente: Arte italiana 1960-2010 (MAXXI and Electa Mondadori, 2010), as well as authored The Great Subtraction (ASA Publishers, 2011).
