Eileen Clancy is an MA student in the CUNY Graduate Center’s program in Liberal Studies/Digital Humanities where she conceptualized an NEH-funded scholarly communication project to increase the transparency of proprietary library research databases. Clancy also works in the history of science and history of computing focusing on the problem of how knowledge is created and represented and how credit is assigned in scientific work. Her book project, set during the Cold War, explores the life and work of a Japanese woman geophysicist in the early U.S. space program who performed an extraordinary set of calculations, without access to an electronic computer, using a Japanese abacus.
