Edward E. Telles is Professor of Sociology at Princeton University and director of the Center for Migration and Development. He is also principal investigator on the Project on Ethnicity and Race in Latin America (PERLA), which is a multinational collaborative research project based on surveys of several Latin American countries. A book Pigmentocracies (provisional title) from the PERLA collective will appear in print next year through the University of North Carolina Press. Telles has also written several comparative articles on ethnoracial inequality, identification and attitudes with the PERLA data, including articles published this year in the American Journal of Sociology, the Hispanic American Historical Review and the Latin American Research Review. In 2004, Telles wrote Race in Another America: The Significance of Skin Color in Brazil, which received the Distinguished Scholarly Publication Award from the American Sociological Association and in 2008, he co-authored (with Vilma Ortiz) Generations of Exclusion: Mexican Americans, Assimilation and Race. Both books received the Otis Dudley Duncan Award for the best book in Social Demography.
