David Brotherton is chairman and professor in sociology, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, CUNY. Among his recent books are Banished to the Homeland: Dominican Deportees and Their Stories of Exile (2011), coauthored with Luis Barrios; Keeping Out the Other: A Critical Introduction to Immigration Control (2008), edited with P. Kretsedemas; and The Almighty Latin King and Queen Nation: Street Politics and the Transformation of a New York City Gang (2004), coauthored with Luis Barrios.
