Dana Taplin works with Setha Low in the Public Space Research Group of the Center for Human Environments at the CUNY Graduate Center. He worked with Doctor Low and Suzanne Scheld in a cultural use study of three New York State parks for the Open Space Institute in 2012, and has conducted ethnographic studies of park resources for the National Park Service in New York, New Jersey, Long Island and Philadelphia. He has just submitted a chapter, with Professors Suzanne Scheld and Setha Low, on historic preservation issues at Jones Beach State Park, NY, for Making the Past Less Foreign, (Barry Stiefel and Jeremy Wells, Editors) reflecting on historic preservation practice 30 years after David Lowenthal’s groundbreaking work, The Past is a Foreign Country. Dr. Taplin is based at ActKnowledge, where he has worked to develop and apply Theory of Change methodology to planning and evaluation in a range of settings. He is leading a ToC training for the Environment and Natural Resources group at Chemonics, an international development USAID contractor in Washington, D. C.
