Cristina Pérez Díaz

Cristina Pérez Díaz is currently completing a Ph.D. in Classics at Columbia University. She earned an M.A. in Philosophy from the National Autonomous University of Mexico and an M.A. in Classics from the CUNY Graduate Center. One of her areas of specialty is Classical Reception. From 2015-2016, she was a Public Humanities Fellow (New York Council for the Humanities) and a Mellon Fellow for Public Engagement (Center for the Humanities, CUNY). As a fellow at the Center for the Humanities, she was part of a seminar on the theory of translation. With the support from the Public Humanities Fellowship, her original play, Western, a play staging Antigone and her brothers, was produced in 2016 in collaboration with the theater company Caborca at El Flamboyán, New York. Her poems in Spanish and English have been published in a variety of magazines and anthologies. She is currently working towards the publication of her translation into English of José Watanabe's Antígona. She is also the Founding Editor of The Puerto Rico Review, and of its translation branch-magazine, Not in the original.
