Boris Sandler

Boris Sandler (b. 1950) is a prolific and award-winning figure in the contemporary Yiddish arts world, working across genres as a prose writer, poet, journalist, playwright, musician, and filmmaker. Born in Balti, USSR (Moldova today), he lived in Israel before settling in New York. He is perhaps best known as the editor-in-chief of the New York-based Yiddish newspaper Forverts, a position he held for eighteen years before stepping down in 2016. He has published 23 books, prose and poetry. Two of the books were also published in English: Stones don't bear witness (Ktav, 2011) and Red shoes for Rachel (Syracuse University Press, 2017).
