Bethany Nowviskie edits the #alt-academy site at MediaCommons, and is Director of Digital Research & Scholarship at the University of Virginia Library (a department which includes the Scholars’ Lab and UVa Library's Graduate Fellowship Program in Digital Humanities). She is also Associate Director of the Scholarly Communication Institute. Her doctorate is in English Language and Literature from the University of Virginia and she has been active in the digital humanities since the mid-1990s, presently serving as vice president of the Association for Computers and the Humanities (ACH), a steering committee member for ADHO (the Alliance of Digital Humanities Organizations) and centerNet, and chair of the MLA‘s Committee on Information Technology. Nowviskie's own research interests lie in the intersection of algorithmic or procedural method and traditional humanities interpretation. Works in progress include Neatline, a scholarly edition of A.C. Swinburne’s 1866 Poems and Ballads, and two small human beings.
