Antonella Pelizzari

Maria Antonella Pelizzari is Professor of Art History at Hunter College and the Graduate Center, CUNY where she specializes on the history of photography. She is the author of Photography and Italy (Reaktion Books, 2011); Painting in Italy, 1910s-1950s: Futurism, Abstraction, Concrete Art (Allemandi, 2015) and the contributing author to the exhibition catalog Futurism 1909-1944. Reconstructing the Universe (The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, 2014); Paul Strand (Philadelphia Museum of Art, 2015); Lynne Cohen (Fundación MAPFRE, 2014); Kati Horna. Told and Untold (Americas Society, 2017); Bruno Munari: The Lightness of Art (Oxford: Peter Lang, 2017). She was curator of photography at the Canadian Centre for Architecture in Montreal, where she organized the exhibition and edited the catalog Traces of India: Photography, Architecture and the Politics of Representation (Montreal and New Haven: CCA and Yale Center for British Art, 2003; “CAA British Art Historians Prize”). She is currently working on a book project on the narratives of photography in mass periodicals in modern Italy and she is co-editing an anthology, Print Matters: Histories of Photography in Illustrated Magazines.
