Alan C. Braddock

Alan C. Braddock is the Ralph H. Wark Associate Professor of Art History and American Studies at William & Mary, where he teaches courses on art history, ecology, environmental justice, and animal studies.  He is the author of Thomas Eakins and the Cultures of Modernity (published by University of California Press, 2009) and co-editor of three other books, including Nature’s Nation: American Art and Environment (published by the Princeton University Art Museum in association with Yale University Press, 2018), which won the Association of Art Museum Curators Award for Excellence as well as the Association of American Publishers PROSE Award for best art exhibition publication of the year.  Professor Braddock is currently on leave at the Getty Research Institute, where he is working on a new book titled Implication: Theory and Practice in Ecocritical Art History.  He is also completing a second new book titled Gun Vision: The Militarization of American Painting.
