The PhD Program in Art History and the James Gallery are pleased to announce a call for applications for a new Mellon Global Programs Fellow for academic year 2021-22. This fellowship works with the Curator at the James Gallery, and will create and execute two different types of events that may include scholarly symposia, artist’s conversations, screening series, performances in the gallery or in digital form over the course of the year.
Acknowledging a need in both the academic and curatorial fields, this fellowship has been created to offer mentoring and provide experience in the specific issues related to postcolonial and decolonial practice in scholarly research and public curatorial work. Graduate students who research art and culture of First Nations, South America, Africa and the MENA region, Southeast Asia and some parts of Eastern Europe encounter specific challenges of access unlike work with Western art practice, collections, and archives. This fellowship takes a hands-on approach to learning interdisciplinary methods to create public programs with the James Gallery that focus on the array of approaches to archiving and conveying artistic traditions in these regions.
This fellowship is funded by a generous grant for curatorial studies from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. In addition, a GAD fellowship from the GC to cover tuition and health insurance eligibility is provided. This is a two-day per week commitment in the 2021-22 academic year.
