The Colombian Studies Group (CSG) is an interdisciplinary group of students in the Graduate Center, CUNY that presents and hosts a platform for those Colombian citizens who live outside the official narrative of the history of Colombia.
Join us for “Narrating Life: Afro Colombian Experiences" a response to the current circumstances with the Peace Agreement in Colombia, featuring two distinguished guests, Héctor Marino Carabalí and Marta Quiñónez.
3:00 – 5:00 pm: Héctor Marino Carabalí: State Violence and Impunity in Colombia
Héctor Marino Carabalí is a human rights activist and community leader. He will be sharing his experiences to bring attention to state violence and impunity in Colombia. Furthermore, he will be discussing the context of racism, sexism, human rights abuses, and social movements in Northern Cauca, Colombia in the hopes of building international solidarities.
6:00 - 8:00 pm: Marta Quiñónez: Poetry Reading & Conversation with Professor Constanza López (University of North Florida)
Marta Quiñonez is a well known Afro-Colombian feminist poet. She will be sharing her most recent work with us, and she will engage in a conversation with professor Constanza López from the University of North Florida.
