About this position

The College Assistant position will work 20 hours per week.

The College Assistant will serve as Assistant to the Director and will assist the Director of the Center for the Humanities on a wide range of day-to-day tasks, with a particular focus on supporting grant research, development, management, and reporting; communications, marketing, and publicity; and planning and implementation of initiatives. The assistant to the director will likewise facilitate cross-institutional and departmental exchange and support, ensuring the Center is in communication with its various GC constituencies. All aspects of this position are geared toward furthering the mission of the Center for the Humanities, which encourages collaborative and creative work in the arts, humanities, and humanities-inflected social sciences at CUNY and across the city through innovative programming, projects, seminars, conferences, publications, and exhibitions. Ultimately, this position will help ensure clear communication of the Center’s mission across all channels, connecting with wider publics while championing and uplifting the scholarly work of students and faculty across CUNY. The College Assistant will work 20 hours per week.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned administrator and early career scholar with a talent for 1) working collaboratively as part of a dynamic team 2) refining and clarifying academic language for general audiences; 2) offering practical, strategic, and creative guidance for moving CUNY scholarship into public discourse through thoughtful media and creative promotional campaigns. Familiarization with CUNY, the media landscape, the arts, humanities, and social sciences landscape, the philanthropic landscape, and up-to-date communications strategies preferred. The Center for the Humanities is a great place to work for an emerging scholar wishing to gain professional skills and networks in a supportive, creative, growth-oriented environment. This position is hybrid, abiding by the GC’s most up-to-date work mandates.

Responsibilities include:

-Assisting the director in drafting, editing, and circulating communications copy (e.g. press releases, publications, social media posts) to multiple audiences

-Assisting the director in the maintenance and development of web content and digital archives, the execution of social media strategies, and the tracking and tweaking of projects and media exposure

-Assisting the director in project management on specific campaigns and initiatives

-Assisting the director in the maintenance of calendars and appointments related to development and marketing

-Assisting the director in communications with funders and partners

-Assisting the director in the preparation of presentations and reports

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

-Appreciation for the CUNY Graduate Center and the Center for the Humanities’ mission

-Experienced with Google Suite, including Google Drive, Google Calendar, Google Docs, and Google Forms

-Experienced with Apple Mac OS

-Excellent communication capabilities (verbal and written)

-Strong organizational skills, the ability to prioritize, and to work as part of a team

-Experience with grant-writing, reporting, and research

-Experience with emerging communications strategies and media platforms

-A desire to build your professional portfolio as an academic administrator

COMPENSATION

$22.29 per hour
