About the event
Can the health care systems of Cuba and Venezuela become working models across the globe? Following a model which has made Cuba a world leader in medicine and medical training, Venezuela’s Integral Community Medicine program moves doctor-teachers into the countryside and poor urban areas to recruit and train doctors from among peasants and workers. Join Steve Brouwer, author of Revolutionary Doctors: How Venezuela and Cuba Are Changing the World’s Conception of Health Care, Ida Susser, Anthropology, The Graduate Center, CUNY, and the Honorable Jorge Valero Briceño, Permanent Representative for Venezuela to the United Nations, for a discussion of this innovative and inspiring program of community health care. Featuring Rolando Briceno and his Afro-Venezuelan Jazz Big Band, with special guests Adela Dalton, Yeselyn Matos and Wilma Almestica.
