Join celebrated painter Chuck Close for a spirited conversation with Graduate Center President William Kelly. Close is a celebrated painter who is best known for his large-scale portraits. In 2010, Close was awarded the National Medal of Arts and the Alfred Eisenstaedt Award for Magazine Photography. He has received numerous major awards including a Fulbright Grant (1964-5), a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship (1973), and an elected membership at the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters (1992). Close’s paintings have been the subject of solo exhibitions at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, and Walker Arts Center, among other major international museums. His work is represented in the collections of the National Gallery of Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, and the J. Paul Getty Museum.
