This seminar brings together students, faculty and the public for an informal seminar on the development of the essay as a literary and social form.
André Aciman was born in Alexandria, Egypt, and is an American memoirist, essayist, and novelist, and a distinguished professor of Comparative Literature at the CUNY Graduate Center, director of The Writers’ Institute, and chair of The Center for the Humanities at the Graduate Center, CUNY. He received his Ph.D. from Harvard University and has taught at Princeton University and Bard College. His work has appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Review of Books, The New York Times, The New Republic, and Condé Nast Traveler as well as in many volumes of The Best American Essays. He is the author of Out of Egypt: A Memoir and of the novels Call Me by Your Name, Eight White Nights, and Harvard Square. He is also the author of the essay collections False Papers and Alibis. He is the editor of The Proust Project and Letters of Transit. His forthcoming books are entitled Enigma Variations and Homo Irrealis.
