About this GC Grad B position
Women’s Studies Quarterly (WSQ) seeks a CUNY Graduate Center doctoral student for an Assistant Editorial position for the 2022-2023 academic year. WSQ is a peer-reviewed feminist interdisciplinary journal featuring academic articles, art, prose and poetry engaging emerging issues in women, gender, and sexuality studies (http://www.feministpress.org/wsq/). The journal is published by the Feminist Press with support from the Center for the Humanities and the Center for the Study of Women and Society at the CUNY Graduate Center.

Grad B Editorial Assistant to Women’s Studies Quarterly duties and responsibilities:
- Reports to the general editors and works with the other editorial assistants and guest editors.
- Oversees scheduling, board meetings, and trafficking of the issue and relevant documents up until the copyedit is complete.
- Maintains the WSQ editorial email address, WSQ webpage, and WSQ Submittable.
- Maintains WSQ’s social media platforms: twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
- Corresponds with guest editors and sends reminders of upcoming due dates and responsibilities, as well as communicating about production deadlines/deliverables with relevant Feminist Press staff.
- Oversees the submission and peer review process, communicates with peer reviewers on the editorial board and ensures due dates are met.
- Oversees CFP postings, book reviews, and consent-to-publish forms.
- Attends board meetings and emails notification of board meetings, including previous meeting minutes and other attachments, to members of editorial board.
- Collaborates on various marketing efforts for the journal.
- Performs research for the general editors as necessary.
- Keeps records of all meeting minutes and major editorial statements for the WSQ archive.
The ideal candidate will:
- Possess excellent writing and editing skills.
- Have experience with professional digital communication tools such as email, Dropbox, and Google Drive. Desired: Knowledge of or experience with Wordpress and the ability to quickly learn and use our online issue management system, Submittable.
- Have the capacity to meet and manage deadlines on a tight production schedule
- Be experienced working independently to monitor and communicate deadlines.
- Have a strong interest in feminist publishing.
- Have social media experience or interest in maintaining and developing WSQ’s presence on social media platforms
Hours: 10 hours a week.
Starting Salary for a CUNY GC Grad B is $12,956, but if a candidate has been a Grad B before, they will be put at their own current Grad B level.
If already a GCF, one can still receive the Grad B funds through Financial Aid. If one is a tuition-only fellow, HR holds onboarding for current students in June and July.
