Join a free guided art walkshop around Brooklyn and explore the history of heat in the city.

Led by Melting Metropolis’ artist Bryony Ella and historian Dr. Kara Schlichting, Drawing Heat will be a playful, embodied mark-making experience that explores our sensory experience of summer in the city. Discover how, why, when and where heat moves through the city, what an urban heat island is and how our bodies are impacted by it. Be inspired by the history and climate of New York as we create experimental artworks in ink, pencil and chalk to express embodied memories of summer.
Drawing Heat is a walking tour led by artist Bryony Ella and historian Dr. Kara Schlichting. Join one of the free guided art walkshops around Queens, Brooklyn and Manhattan to see heat in the city with new eyes, and ears, and maybe also with a new nose! Drawing Heat will be a playful, embodied experience bringing art and history together to rediscover the city.
All materials provided and no art background necessary! Please note that this is an outdoor activity suitable for 14yrs+ who are comfortable walking / standing for up to 1 hour at a time. The total walk route will cover a maximum of 1.25 miles and the majority of the walkshop will be spent under shade. Places are limited to 15 people.

Drawing Heat aims to inspire deeper engagement and meaningful dialogue on how the climate crisis affects both local and global communities. These walkshops are part of COAL+ICE, which is an immersive photography and video exhibition and series of events that visualise the causes and consequences of the climate crisis and propose creative solutions.
