Across the United States, cities are shrinking—leaving behind crumbling and excessive infrastructure, concentrations of generational poverty and weakened civic capacity. How can these transitions become opportunities, instead of nightmares, for these residents? Join Toni Griffin (Architecture, City College, CUNY) for an investigation of new approaches to urban design and planning for the American city. She will share her insights from her work combining the practice of architecture, urban design, and planning with the execution of innovative, large-scale, mixed-use urban redevelopment projects, and citywide and neighborhood planning strategies. This program is part of the "Common Goods: Exploring Innovative Transitions Series" presented in connection with the Decolonizing Architecture Art Residency exhibition on view in the James Gallery from March 14 through June 2, 2012.
