About the event
Please join Baruch College's Black and Latinx Studies Department on Thursday, April 20th at 4:00 pm for their Afro-Latinidades Symposium, featuring a reading and conversation with poet and artist Lois Elaine Griffith, the last surviving founder of the Nuyorican Poets Cafe. The event will be held in CUNY's Baruch College, Engelman Recital Hall. Lois Elaine Griffith will perform a reading followed by a conversation about her work. The event will end, in the tradition of the Nuyorican Poets Cafe’s Open Room, with an open mic. The reception to follow will also include a DJ set and catering. This event is free and open to all.
So please join us for an evening filled with poetry, live music, festivities, and community.
This Afro-Latinidades Symposium is organized by Shelly Eversly, Joseph Cáceres, and Vallerie Matos and sponsored and presented by Baruch College's Black and Latinx Studies Department, and co-sponsored by the Nuyorican Artists in the Cafe working group in conjunction with Lost & Found: The CUNY Poetics Document Initiative.
