About this Public Humanities Project
Kristi Riley is a PhD student in the Sociology Department at The CUNY Graduate Center, and a recipient of the 2019 Public Humanities Fellowship from Humanities New York and the Center for the Humanities at The Graduate Center, CUNY for her public humanities project "A New Risk Principle."
A New Risk Principle challenges the assumptions of contemporary criminal justice risk assessment tools by focusing on the ways systemic inequality drives justice involvement and facilitates criminalization. Soon, she will launch a public facing website with policy briefs, data visualizations, and other resources relevant to activists engaged in transformative justice. Riley will incorporate a qualitative component to the project that centers the voices, needs, and analyses of those most impacted by the criminal legal system to ensure the project is in solidarity with their visions for justice.
