Ai Weiwei, one of the world’s most prominent artists and activists renowned for making strong aesthetic statements resonating with timely phenomena across today’s geopolitical world, discusses his work and life with Tim Marlow, artistic director of the Royal Academy of Arts, London. From architecture to installations, social media to documentaries, Ai uses a wide range of mediums as expressions of new ways for his audiences to examine society and its values. His public installation Good Fences Make Good Neighbors was exhibited throughout New York City in 2017. A landmark show at the Royal Academy, in 2015, was the first major survey of the artist’s work, bridging over two decades of his extraordinary career.
